I came across an original Sipos about ten years ago. As I understand he started painting in 1972. This painting on canvas is 2ft by 3ft showing a meadow with stream. Signed and dated 1972. The woman I received it from said she bought it new in a furniture store in San Bernardino in 1972. It is called "Spacious Land". If you know anything about his earlier works please let me know. I could send a photo.

I definitely agree with your sentiments at the beginning of the post. If I was an avid collector I doubt I would spend much time on landscape works and instead try to focus on more 'exciting' genres and disciplines. Just the same I appreciate good landscape work. I had a big breakthrough of sorts after visiting a Group of Seven exhibition in Ottawa and really getting into the landscapes of the collective and Thompson. Like others have said I really do appreciate the calmness and ability of a landscape work to transport the viewer to the scene just like with high realist works.

I have always liked the landscapes of the ocean and the mountains. I just love to sit and look at them and try to put myself in the scene.

I made a big deal about [not] collecting landscapes in the beginning of this post but they are really are calming as you say. I've had these since 1989 and they have not lost any of their appeal.

Thanks for your comments.

I love this painting. I personally love landscapes pictures especially ones that are of the ocean. I have just always found them calming.
